Eat, drink and enjoy a tipple or two!

We all know that for many elderly folk across the UK, Christmas can be a sad and lonely time. Despite best efforts by charities and volunteer organisations, many communities rely on the goodwill of their residents to ensure that the elderly are suitably cared for during the Christmas period.

One such act of goodwill involved the community of Codicote village, Hertfordshire, home to Royston Labels’ senior account manager, Martin Hughes.

A couple new to the village wished to do something for the community and decided to host, at their own expense, a festive Christmas lunch for the elderly.

Having originally planned for 50, a total of 98 people said that they would attend. The event took place on 1st December, at the John Clements Sports & Community Centre, Codicote.

As a friend of the organisers, Martin was asked if he could look after a table. To create a small team, Martin asked Clare and Stephanie, also from Royston Labels, if they could assist.

The lunch itself was a great success, with Martin and his team being allocated a table of 8 to serve.

Soup, turkey and all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pud and mince pies was the order of the day, whilst entertainment was provided by two choirs and a local singer.

Martin said: “It was great to see so many of the local elderly community out and enjoying a hearty festive meal.   They all had a good sing-along and all had a great time. It was a fantastic idea, which I believe is being repeated next year.”

Come and see us on stand C12 at Packaging Innovations

Once again this year, we are exhibiting at Packaging Innovations on 16-17 September, which for the first time is being held at London’s Olympia - our stand is C12 (see floorplan below).

Having won a top award at this year’s FINAT competition in the ‘self-promotion’ category for an engaging 8-colour label design, we will be showing a variety of embellishment techniques on a wide range of substrates, together with cutting-edge printing processes that can help provide product differentiation by creating innovative packaging identities that stand out and deliver.

“Innovation is a critical part of our company’s philosophy, and we are continually seeking to offer the latest technologies as part of our commitment to delivering expert and reliable service to our customers,” said Managing Director, Paul Clayton. “We therefore see value in exhibiting at events like Packaging Innovations, where we have the opportunity to demonstrate our unique approach and capabilities.”

If you are coming down to the show, please drop by and say hello. We look forward to welcoming you to our stand.

Good luck to Foxton Cricket Club!

Despite the onset of Premier League football fever, some of us are still relishing England’s fantastic triumph over Australia in regaining the Ashes at Trent Bridge. Closer to home we’ve also been witnessing an equally tense cricket season as we follow the fortunes of local XI, Foxton Cricket Club. As you can see from the photos, as shirt sponsors, we have a vested interest in their success!

Located on the outskirts of Cambridge, Foxton CC are currently competing in the 2015 Davidstow Village Cup. Progressing nicely though the quarter-finals, they recently did an amazing job and won their semi-final match against Goatacre CC of Wiltshire and have made it through to the final.

Playing the 2014 winners, Woodhouse Grange CC of Yorkshire on 13 September, the showpiece final is at Lord's, the Davidstow Village Cup being the only competition that offers amateur sportsmen and women the opportunity to play out their dreams on such hallowed turf. The two teams will also be given the same treatment as the England team when they play at Lord’s including the same accommodation, suits and hospitality.

Royston Labels’ managing director, Paul Clayton, said: “We’re fully aware that sponsorship funding plays a big part in helping local sports clubs continue playing and we are delighted to be involved in a shirt sponsorship arrangement with Foxton CC. Following their progress to the final at Lord’s is nail-biting to say the least and we wish them every success on 13 September.”

Cup sponsors, leading cheese brand Davidstow, are offering a year’s supply of cheddar to the winning XI, a further incentive for victory as Foxton CC step out onto the turf at Lord’s.

Good luck Foxton!
